Celebrities of SouthShore

You won't believe the celebrities we have living in SouthShore!  Especially those of you who have moved here recently.  May we present to you some very interesting people:

  •   Bill Floyd has lived here for many years and is a very unassuming Southern gentleman.    Even if you have met him and his wife, Carla Rockwell Floyd (accomplished in her own right), you might never have suspected the things he has done and the people he has known.  Bill has appeared at the Grand Ole Opry at least five times.  He has been the opening act for many of the best-known country singers over the last 4-5 decades.   His most recent CD is entitled, "Lookin' Back," but he is definitely looking forward to spending more time performing now that he has retired from Media General.

Check out his schedule and get a taste of his CD at www.BillFloydMusic.com.

  •   Penny Fletcher, whom many of us know as a Senior Editor for Sunbelt Publishing, is a published author.    Penny has written AN EDITOR'S GUIDE TO PERFECT PRESS RELEASES.  She has also written and published a fiction novel, WHERE THE WILD ROSE GROWS, and has another available to publishers entitled, BODY OF CONTENT. And she owns her own editing service, Write/Right.

Visit www.PennyFletcher.com to see her extensive list of Awards and to order her books.

  •   Bill Hodges of Apollo Beach is a

    • Seminar Leader
    • Executive Coach
    • Keynote Speaker
    • Best Selling Author
    • T.V. Talk Show Host

His public affairs television show, "East Shore Today," can be viewed on cable channel 20 on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm.   This interview format program keeps its finger on the pulse of south Hillsborough county and is a must watch for those wanting to keep up with local happenings.   More about Bill Hodges can be found at www.billhodges.com.

  • Fred Rothenbush, a fifth-generation artist and a member of The Portrait Institute, started painting at age 4 and exhibiting at 13.    He is listed in the 1981-82 American Artists of Renown.    According to his bio on his Website, he has "hunted quail with President Jimmy Carter and has his works in the collections of four other Presidents and various entertainers including Elvis Presley, Porter Wagoner and Tennessee Ernie Ford among others."    Fred lives in Ruskin with his teacher wife, Polly.    As accomplished as Fred is, he still exhibits at the Ruskin Seafood and Arts Festival each year.  See Fred's work at Rothenbush.com.

  • Jo Tarabula, watercolorist and member of the American Watercolor Society, has led workshops all over the country with notable artists, such as Ed Whitney and Tony Couch.    Jo "holds court" at the Ruskin Village Tea Room on most Fridays (on Shell Point just west of Hwy 41 South).    You can view her gorgeous watercolors there even when she is not "in the house."    You can also purchase her videos which many of us former students use to keep us on our toes.

  • Lester Freeman, who was one of the Soul Brothers Six, the original group who in 1967 recorded "Some Kinda Wonderful," is now performing with the guys (and Diana) at Full Moon Music in Apollo Beach.  That song has now been recorded by 38 different roups.   Check their schedule here.

  • Willa Ford is our own Mandy Williford, who grew up right here and performed in the Tampa Bay Children's Chorus way back when.

  • Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys fame lives in our community.

  • Goalie Nikolai Khabibulin (35) of the Tampa Bay Lightning, is said to reside in Mirabay.

  •   Pam Patton, local artist, has done promotional work for the Tampa Streetcar, has commissions throughout the US, has done exclusive work for The Columbia Restaurant, had work in the famed Pacheco Gallery, and, most notably, holds the Key to the City of Tampa.  Actually, she made the Key to the City.   Her artwork was personally chosen by Mayor Pam Iorio to give to dignitaries when they visit Tampa.   She has been written up in SEVERAL feature newspaper articles and has been a part of various other events.   For full details of her work and accomplishments, visit www.pampatton.biz.

Pam is a Southshore resident who resides in SouthPointe Subdivision.
